AAACF
shares our community’s deep concern for the people of Haiti.
If
philanthropy’s mission is to serve the common good, this is
indeed one of those moments.
As daily news reports illustrate the devastation and
desperation in Haiti, we should do our part to support the
immediate rescue and relief aspects of the disaster. The
most urgent need is financial – to support those
organizations who are equipped to provide immediate disaster
relief and medical care.
We encourage you to donate to those organizations that
have experience in disaster relief and an established
presence in Haiti.
Both Network for Good
http://www.networkforgood.org/ and
Guidestar
http://www2.guidestar.org/
provide important information on
nonprofit organizations –
and can help you find those organizations that have the
expertise, capacity, and competence to provide the most
effective and immediate help in Haiti.
Among the organizations equipped to offer immediate
assistance in Haiti - and that also offer daily updates from
Haiti -include:
American Red Cross

to the American Red Cross International Response Fund will
provide immediate relief and long-term support through

is located 20 miles west of Port-au-Prince and just 10 miles west of
the earthquake's epicenter. Ann Arbor resident Ruth Barnard,

nursing co-founded the school in 2005 with the support of
her church, First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. There
