Community Investment Officer, Community Investment
As the Community Investment Officer, Maryellen participates in the development of AAACF’s scholarship and targeted grant programs and serves as the point of contact for scholarship and grant applicants. After graduating with a BA in English, Maryellen moved from her home state of Virginia to Seattle, Washington to take a position with Americorps, working for a teen suicide prevention organization. It was while working for Americorps that Maryellen became interested in supporting direct service work for nonprofits.
While she is no longer practicing direct service herself, her experience working closely with community members continues to provide her with a deep empathy for others, which provides her insight in her work with AAACF. Maryellen continued to develop her experience in program management at nonprofits supporting children and youth in Seattle until her marriage to her husband brought her to Washtenaw County, where she joined our team in 2014.
What is your favorite thing to do in Washtenaw County?
I really enjoy going with my husband and two children to County Farm Park. County Farm Park seems to pull in a little bit of every part of the community—older people, children, families, students—to enjoy just being outside.
